Thanks all for the warm welcome. Nice to see the Old Dominion is well represented here too!

And so the adventure begins: I've got about 6 coats of BLO on the stock so far. Nice grain and color from the factory, but very dry and a little on the rough side. Have been rubbing in the BLO with 0000 steel wool pad and it's smoothing it out nicely without taking down the grain.

Picked up an M6 bayonet yesterday at the Dale City gun show, and have a flash hider/front sight assembly with bayonet lug on order from Brownells. M1907 sling inbound from Turners.

Also closed a deal today on a Sadlak steel scope mount that I found on VA Gun Trader, so now starting to think about the optic. I'm leaning toward a HiLux Leatherwood ART to give it that Vietnam era M21 feel, but might go with the 1200 (6-24x) to take full advantage of the 1000 yd range available at Quantico.

Don't know if you can see the difference in the photos, but here it is after starting the BLO treatment.

I was able to swing by Elite Shooting Sports in Manassas yesterday and shoot on the 100 yard range. The first 4 targets were shot a 25 yards and the final target at 100. I wasn't trying to zero so much as just familiarize with POI vs POA at those ranges. I did play around with the windage and elevation a little bit to see how much POI would shift per click.

1st 3 round group with rear sight bottomed out and dead center.

2nd 3 round group, 1 click to the left.

3rd 3 round group, 3 more clicks left (total of 4 clicks left of mechanically centered)

4th 3 round group, 1 click back to the right.

Groups 1-4 at 100 yards.

Group 1 - elevation bottomed out, windage 3 clicks left.

Group 2 - elevation set to 200

Group 3 - 1 click left

Group 4 - 2 clicks left (total of 6 clicks left of mechanical center)

As I understand it, I should now recenter the rear sight and then drift the front sight in order to center POI. I also have some SR-1 targets centers on order because it makes more sense to have a bullseye zero for the type of shooting I do than a "battle sight" zero. Doubt Uncle Sam will be deploying me any time soon

I was not, but many friends and fellow shooters were there. I was there in spirit and I've been stocking up on "assault weapons" in case any of these really egregious bills do pass next year.

1st mod - flash hider with bayonet stud!

I have the Sadlak steel mount but having a hell of a time driving the clip guide roll pin out of the receiver. It's bent two of my pin punches. Currently soaking in Kroil. Any recommendations?
