M1A Scout Side Sling Mounts
Undertook a small project yesterday. I added a pair of sling mounts on the left side of the stock to enable slinging across the front of the body. I started with a pair of Magpul Mlok GI Sling mounts and filed off the mlok studs from the bottom. I drilled two shallow holes with a 1/2” forsner bit and used a sharp chisel between them to recess the sling studs. On the forward mount I bought a pair of 3/4” 10-24 pan heads that matched a few old magpul MOE t nuts which I used as a backer and used a cut off wheel to cut the excess bolts off flush. On the rear I again recessed the sling mount and purchased some brass threaded inserts and corresponding pan heads. Overall it turned out okay. Not perfect, but strong and functional.

Looks good, I like it.
I've done something similar on my scout length LRB. Mounted a swivel on the side for a single point sling. Haven't used the single point since putting a scope on it.
