Some of the Chinese gas cylinders are pretty bad. I have seen several whetre the cyliner bore is angled a few degrees from centerline. Also, cyl bore inside diameter can be considerably larger than GI standards.

get it inspected. Mag particle inspection if its magnetic. Dye check if it won't pull a magnet. There should be a inspection company near you. Most metal inspectors will do it for you cheap. I had a antique musket x rayed to see if it was still loaded ( it wasn't) . The lead ball would of showed up big time on xray. The guy did it on lunch break for free just because it was cool! They use reusable digital plates so no real expense. Most inspectors that work pipelines have the equipment on the truck. Dye check is cheap and easy. You could do that yourself just clean it with Electra clean to degrease. Spray on dye let it dwell (sit) for 10 min. To allow dye to penetrate any cracks then wipe off excess with paper towels (no solvents) till no dye remains on surface. Then spray on a white powder contrast developer. This wicks any of the red dye out of any deep cracks. Giving you a larger bleed of any cracks that exist that you can see easily against white developer. Works by capillary action. The dye is very messy!

If it was mine, I would just replace it. Chicom gas cylinders are pretty cheap.
Also, Chicom gas piston diameter is larger than USGI spec. So, you will need to run a Chicom gas piston in a Chicom gas cylinder.

Maybe it is time to upgrade into a USGI unitized gas cylinder assembly?

He is in Canada. I doubt they will ship to the USA, and even with exchange rate, it is expensive.

I lost out on BM59 Nigerian stock for my Ital for $200 b/c the guy at the gun shop was afraid of being ITAR'd. As we were working out the details that a stock did not count, an employee of his sold it.

I needed that boat paddle.
