Chinese M14 wood stock...

Been thinking of picking up an extra Polytech/Norinco wood stock to keep on hand for a spare in case something happens to the original. I know just about everybody hates the chinese wood stocks so I'm having trouble finding a source or even a current value.

Anybody know whether these have all been used for firewood or just sitting in closets everywhere ?? The chinese walnut doesn't seem so bad on the Norinco.
Reason I'm not really interested in USGI stocks is the selector notch cut & the stock isn't cut for the shorter pin found in the chinese rifles. Was hoping to turn up something like... this, but so far drawing a blank...

Hello,
Heck, If you want to pay the shipping cost, I'll send you one(early Poly-Tech), it's complete w/rubber butt pad, no cut out for flapper hinge.... I have no need for it.
I couldn't see clogging up my stove pipe, burning it...
PM me with your address. If, you can use it.
I have to go too the Post Office on Monday anyway.

the chicoms did not put walnut on norcs, they used chiu wood, very soft. if you have walnut, it is not original. replaced on this side of the ocean.

Thanks from XXXMarine

I have had dozens of the Chinese M14 clones with the original WOOD stocks. Most of these were the MYSTERY/?Chu? wood, which was VERY SOFT! I did however have a few with nice hard wood, ? Cherry?, and this one, which I think was ?Walnut? Very hard, very tough. I customised it into a cheap "Tacticool" pistol grip stock with M14.CA accessories.

With the M14 type rifles, stock fit is CRITICAL to good accuracy and also to safety. This rifle shot MOA with this stock

Thanks very much for the kind & generous offer, but unfortunately I don't have the skillset & tooling needed to cut the pockets for the metal butt plate assembly & cleaning kit storage. Gotta have the metal butt plate with cleaning kit storage for that classic M-14 look.

Thought they had used a version of Manchurian walnut at some point ?? I have one stock that is definitely lighter in color & possibly density, dunno for sure though. The dark stock in the pic in my OP seems to be denser.

My stocks have the cutouts. As I remember the wood is soft and fragrant. Give me a day or so to get them down and I'll send pictures.
Edit:
My offer is the same as boltaction. Pay for shipping & it's yours.

Thanks from 56type

Noxious dust from Dremeling wood

I have one of the Chinese rifles that I bought in late 1993. I sent it out to be glass bedded, and the person I sent it to said that the dust created by dremeling out wood for glass bedding was the nastiest he'd ever encountered. I replaced everything but the receiver, op rod & stock with US made parts, and have been very happy with it.

I have one that came on my Polytech Sneak. It's really wood. Very soft, and it smells. Someone filled in the selector cut. It's yours if you want it for firewood. My M14S now proudly wears a black painted fiberglass stock with a USMC decal.

That's not the first time I've heard of that... Was talking to a guy at All Military Gunsmithing & was told similar in regards to the chinese wood... As I understand it "Chu" wood was chosen because it resisted moisture in tropical climates/resisted jungle rot & insects. Not sure how accurate that info. is. Could have been chosen because it was easy to shape, cheap, & they had a bunch of it.

I've refinished a few chinese SKS stocks but didn't have to do much, if any, sanding before recoating with Bullseye Amber shellac.

Thanks !! I really like the drop-in fit aspect without the selector cut out that's found on the USGI version since my woodworking skills are minimal. The chance of me filling a selector cutout and having it look like anything other hammered dog crap is about non-existent.

The butt end picture sort of looks chewed up. It isn't. It's the lighting.
Here's the pics:
