Help! Scout is too loud

I just got a scout last week and shot it for the first time today. Even with ear plugs my ears are ringing. The brake has got to go.

I know an 18in barrel is going to be loud and nothing short of a suppressor is going to help much, but will changing to the springfield flash suppressor help much? Is there any certain type of flash suppressor that helps with muzzle blast better than others?

This brake has got to go!

OK, I've got to ask. Having never shot a standard M-14, only my scout, just how much louder can a scout possibly be? It's a firearm, they go boom.

That said, it always amuses me when someone comes over to ask 'OMG, what is that little girl shooting!?!?'. To me it honestly only seems marginally louder than the AR one bench over.

The report of my M14 is greater if I'm using a G.I. flash suppressor versus an S.E.I. CG brake.

When I'm at the public range shooting with the G.I. flash suppressor attached I invariably receive at least one complaint from fellow shooters about the noise generated.

I even had one lady ask the range master to have me moved from one end of the firing line to the other. Really? WTF Lady! LOL!

Yes, they go boom, but this is ridiculous and can't be good for long term hearing. I have enough damage as it is. My 358STA and 375H&H aren't near as bad as this scout.

Like I said, I knew the 18in barrel would be loud, but this brake has to go,

What kind of hearing protection are you using?

Plugs and muffs. My standard for range shooting.

Damn, I don't know what to tell you. The ear plugs I wear at outdoor ranges allow me to stand around machine guns all day with no problems. Do you shoot indoors or outdoors?

These rifles are indeed very loud. I have to wear both plugs and muffs, and even then, my tinnitus gets flared up intensely after shooting (as if it isn't bad enough all the time).

I've got the same problem with my tinnitus. The many thousands of rounds/year have taken a toll on my ears.

I think I'll just take the brake off and shoot without anything just to get an idea of how loud it is with nothing on there.

Shoot... I've probably fired well over a 1,000,000 rounds (of artillery, rifle, handgun calibers) in my life and I've only ever used my military issue orange ear plugs. I've yet to have an ear issue...

My problems started when I forgot to put my protection in while at an indoor shooting range, .357 magnum did it to me - one shot.

Yes, it's true. The difference in generated noise is noticeably different (better if you're sound sensitive) with an S.E.I. CG muzzle brake. Furthermore, the recoil is slightly less too! I don't have to re-adjust my sight picture as much with a CG as I do a G.I. suppressor. It's not a hugh recoil difference but enough to be noticeable.

Get a Delta P adapter to have a front site and just dont screw anything on it.
Will be no differnt than any other rifle at that point.
