Kind of sounds like CTD. CTD used to have crazy low prices and competitive shipping, and then they turned into a shipping/handling gouger.

I just ordered a trigger pin replacement for my EAA 10mm Elite Match (99 cent part), cost me 14.99 to ship. I know your pain.

Just an FYI but shipping costs are going through the roof. I own a business that ships products and it's unreal how much we put out in shipping charges compared to say just 5 years ago. We absorb some of the cost to keep the shipping charges down but how can we absorb anything when say a small item that costs $9 is ordered and UPS wants $15?

Speaking of UPS, they just implemented a change where they now charge whichever is greater - weight or cubic dimension. Many of the items we ship are going to now have huge increases based on the physical size of the packaging even though they weigh next to nothing.

USPS is the cheapest but not the choice of many online shoppers. We tried using them exclusively and watched our sales drop off. Given choices most people prefer UPS or (gasp) FedEX just for the better tracking but no one wants to pay for this.

I believe shipping costs will negatively affect online sales more and more as time goes on.

I was going to order a Mauser trigger from Boyd's, like you said shipping sucks, it was the same price. Ordered somewhere else, I even emailed Boyd's and let them know that their shipping was astronomical, but not a peep from them.

I try to make a large enough order from an online business to make the shipping charges worthwhile.

I do use Amazon Prime because for 99 dollars/year I do get free two-day shipping. Sometimes it's worth it and sometimes not.

That is pretty middle of the road. I shipped a stock recently to the Midwest, it was about $21., I shiped one recently to North Carolina USPS priority, it was about $30. I bought a stock and the seller wanted $25.

Part of the shipping costs is the packaging materials.

If they wrapped a stock in newspaper and tape, it would save the cost of shipping supplies.

But you'd get a beat up, scratched up and possibly damaged stock.

Then you would really complain.

I've been shipping items for a couple of years now and the last thing I want to do is to have to refund someone their money because I didn't pack the item well enough to survive the "gorillas" at any of the shipping companies.

A decent, properly sized box, some bubble wrap and boxing tape cost money, then add the actual shipping cost. Plus paying an employee to pack the item.

Yea, it's the cost of doing business and in any business in order for the business owner to make a living or perhaps even a profit many of the costs have to be passed down to the customer other wise what's the point in being in business?

Just bought an unfinished walnut handguard from Fulton plus the clip. $10.00 shipped.

Hi all.
I recently placed an order for two stocks from Boyds. While the stocks are nice and relatively well made for the price, I came away from the purchase with some disappointment. First off, they originally quoted me a two week production time to ship, same as what is displayed on their website. Two weeks and a day after my order I called and was told they are in production and should ship within a few days. Three weeks plus four days after my original order date (a Monday), I called for an update and was given an "unknown, but probably nearing shipment" answer. I called the next Monday and was told that production was shutdown for a full week while they retool. At this point, we are at one month and a couple days. and I still have to wait a week before customer service can ask production where my stocks are at in production. Customer service called back the next day to tell me they will refund my shipping costs ($27.50). All said and done the stocks arrived two days short of six weeks from my original order. I am used to long lead times and extended waits in this industry, but what I not used to and do not care for is being lied to from the beginning, no matter how good the product is. It makes me think that Boyds feels they no longer need to provide individual customers with any respect now that they are selling so many stocks to manufacturers.

Still, I think the point here is that, it's just a hand guard. Not much weight or cube. $17.30 does seem high to me. But, now online sellers are having to charge tax without having a presence in a state (thank you SCOTUS). Was there a breakdown of the charges? Could some of the charges have been taxes?

so many places have a set minimum for shipping right around $12.50
Whats irks is when you get a small envelope with a $1.69 postage tag.

I wait for free shipping deals or try to hit that price mark for free shipping.

Frankly, shipping across America is CHEAP compared to what they do to us up here.

I'll choose USPS every chance I get.

UPS and FEDEX are completely out of control!!
