Cool story. I knew of his WWII exploits but not this one. Always a fan of his. Who could forget him in Winchester '73? Or Who Shot Liberty Valance?

I suppose the bad gauge means that Clarence Odbody, Angel 1st Class was still looking out for George. Probably Potter who screwed with the gauge.

Cool article.

I was fortunate to have worked with a former B-17 pilot who not only had great stories but incredible (stolen from DOD) photo's. I don't know for how long but he said he was under Stewart's command and he and most of the crew's didn't like him because he was a by the book leader. Whatever that meant since I never served. I have to throw this short story in here. They were supposed to bomb some town in Germany but when he got there they couldn't see the target cuz of the smoke so instead of going around through the flak again he said the followed some RR tracks out of the town and bombed the next town the track's went through. Turn's out they were in Romania and he said later in life he felt bad saying those poor 's probally didn't even know a war was going on.Just some small town in the mountains.
