| Painted ALICE frame is new to me Quote:

I was in the Artillery but the grunts we supported had anodized frames in the early 80s in Germany. I have been buying a few lately on E-Bay and three of the four I have received have been anodized. All of the ones I have ever seen in surplus outlets and at gun shows have been anodized. This last one I bought on E-Bay was painted and I had a what the hey moment. I am using it for camping and exercise so it is fine. Just checking my facts before I leave the guy feedback. I can understand a preference for the painted but I think the anodized etching lasts a little longer than the paint.
This painted one has a stamped 1 1/4 inch round hole for the shoulder strap loops at the bottom of the frame without a hard plastic protector grommet. The metal is press formed with a rounded lip to keep from cutting the shoulder strap when attached. The anodized frames look like the holes on each side were punched out and the hard plastic grommet inserted to protect the shoulder straps from the resulting stamped sharp edge.
Thanks for responding GARRARD. Learn something new every day.
