I scanned some slides of my dads the other week. He was in Vietnam during 1970.

That Plane looks like the Armys L 20 Beaver that covered our small Convoys in the Delta,(199th AVN Co, Swamp Fox) what was the Airforce designation for it?

The O1 Birddog. I think the Beaver was a bigger critter. Here's a couple more

That is indeed Song Be. I was there once in 1967. I see they put a fence up on both sides of the street/runway. Used to be that before landing at Song Be the pilot would have to do a fly-by to chase the pigs and chickens off the street.

Forgot to add: That's Nui Ba Ra mountain in the background.

Trung Si,

They were originally called the L-19, then in 1962 the Government changed the designation to O-1.

Just a tidbit...

Here's another one of my dad. On the back it says "This is the new tiger stripe camo pattern. The top is old, the bottoms are new."

Ambushed by a little kid

Laos (and a spot to keep an eye on for evidence of trucks or other movement)

Thanks for the pictures. I served as a young captain with two USAF FACs, one flew is VN the other in Laos. Both said that they knew their area so well that they could tell if a large group of people moved through it by the wear on the grass. They also said when they were new in country that that flew really low and slow until they figured out the NVA shot real bullets. Mel told me how he would try to light a smoke on the gun site when he forgot his matchs. The other who is a Raven told stories that if the mission went well his Laotion backseat guy would say Budda is good. Other times the guy would say no fly today Budda says bad today. Thanks for the pictures.
