| M14 in use in Afghanistan (video)
Just came across this video on LiveLeak, thought you guys would be interested. Can anyone fill me in on why they're just wearing shorts and no shirts, no helmets, body armor, etc.? |

Good vid. to answer your question they were probably as close as one can get in patrol base ops to "off duty" and they received some incoming or some kind of contact that neccesitated their expedient movement to start lighting dudes up.
happened to us sometimes, no time to change, just get on the gun and rock and role. Smokin and jokin one minute, the next is "wham, wham!" or "crack crack crack" and its time to party reguardless of uniform lol. just put on your IBA and git on line!
you gotta quit posting stuff like that before i go active again, lol.
Great link!

Sleeping ... only in PT shorts ... not on mission ... its my turn to sleep ... SHTF and perimeter gets hit or something ... grab weapon - ammo - IBA - and head to the perimeter.
Looks like a small mountain top OP to me. Sounded like the guy on the radio was trying to get someone down range to pop smoke, probably an airstrike (explosion at the end)

Wow. that brought back some memories.
Yeah to answer your question, pretty much what the other guys said. When you live out there at your OPs, you get woken up from your sleep by crap and you toss your IBA and ACH on and run outside and start shooting. ACUs don't have magical bulletproof capabilities lol so why take the time to put them on if you don't have to ?

DRX, thanks, Pal, . . .
That brought back some memories.
Sometimes you forget what you tucked into the backside of your brain 45 years ago.

Great video.
Looks like joint ops! Looked like Marine PT shorts (underwear), and Army PTs. I know the marines love those shorts, I just gotta give you guys a hard time about it.

I saw a Marine Mustang Lt. earn a Silver Star dressed in boxer shorts and combat boots. The photo upper left is me in Nam in 66. When it's hot you wear what is cool. Uniform regs went out the window in Nam.
