It is also on Digital Cable if you have that !! I have Time Warner and if you go up to the 500s,,maybe 551 or so & look for Prime Time Entertainment I think. Click & find National Geographic Channel and find Restrepo and you will be good to go !! It was still on there as of yesterday !! (11/22/10)

It is a awesome film,,,not much action,,but the "EMOTIONAL" toll more than makes up for it !! Those guys are amazing !! My Wife just wanted to hug them all !!

I just finished reading the book WAR written by Sebastian Junger. It covers in print what the documentary covers in film. It is one of those reads that you can not put down. Unbelievable what those guys went through every day.

The book discuses the firefight in the video - An American Patrol got pinned down by the bad guys, so every U.S. position in the valley opened up to help them out. They caught the Taliban out in the open. Because of the amount of fire that the Americans were laying down, the mountain that the Taliban were on was described as sparkling from the bullet hits even though it was broad daylight.

Also covered is the firefight were Doc Mendoza and Staff Sergeant Brennan were killed. This was the firefight were Specialist Giunta charged the enemy to rescue Brennan as he was being dragged away. For his actions Giunta was awarded the Medal of Honor.

I highly recommend reading this book.

Speaking of a M14 in afghanistan.... I watched a ~14 minute interview with one of the soldiers from the movie Restrepo. Apparently during the "rock avalanche" mission they went on, when they got attacked and had a couple KIA the insurgents stole a M14 off one of the troops. The rest of the troops were going to go down into the 'town' and try to get the rifle and backpack back so they didnt have a war trophey, and I was wondering if anyone knew if they got it back or not. It didnt say in the interview, but from the sounds of it they didnt get close.

I really hope they did, and took out the guys that stole it off the KIA. May the fallen soldiers RIP

One of the producers (Sebastian Junger) of Resrepo also wrote a book about his experience there, titled War. It's a good read.

I don't think they recovered the M14, or at least he didn't mention that in the book.

That brings back some memories, cant let the wife see this, probably have to go back.

For the longest time I wasn't telling her about rockets coming in till we were skyping one night and one hit close enough there was no doubt, especially with secondary explosions

That was a scene from the documentary "Restrepo". One of the two guy who spent a deployment with those soldiers and made that film was recently killed in Libya with another famous photographer Chris Hondros.

May godbless our troops who are over there serving and bring them all home safe soon. Godbless and thank everyone who has served in any war to protect this country too.

I wish i could go there too. They knocked down a piece of me when they took down the trade centers. Again they have woken up a sleeping giant and there going to pay for it.

I built cnc machines to manufacture the m1 abrams main engine rotor and the turret bearings. I built machines for the breech boxes and the muzzle on the 155mm howitzers. When i got laid off from building machines I got a job assembling the 155mm howitzers for the US Army. With a 30 mile range and 55 gallon drum accuracy thats my kind of gun for sure. Godbless America I love this country.
