| Where did you go for R & R ?
I was really station with the 1st Marine Airwing at Futema Okinawa and only TAD ( 6 months ,1970 ) in Country ( RVN ) at the squadron ( VMGR-152 ) sub units . I never went on any R & R as I saved all my military pay for a muscle car that I wanted to buy ,when I got out ! |

We were supposed to go to greece, but when we tried to dock the ship they hung " GO HOME YANKEES" banners in port, so we ended up going to Antalya Turkey. I ate like a viking! $10 and you could find a "good time"

| The lost art of Research is doing great...
Two tours and I didn't go once, I'm like carpshooter. I saved all my money for a muscle car when I came back to the real world. |

Bangkok (2), Taipei (2), Hong Kong(2), Vung Tau (transit), once to Sidney, and once to Yakuska.
We bounced around a bit, and transited on whoever was steaming in the area (Vung Tau, Bangkok, Yakuska). |

I went home to Texas. Huge mistake. I should have stayed in-country (RVN). That comment was echoed by everyone I spoke with who went "home" on R&R. My reality was Vietnam and the petty crap at home really brought life into perspective. This sounds weird many years later but I remain closer to my bro's than ex spouses.

Let's see: Pearl, Yokosuka, Subic Bay, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Okinawa, Brisbane (and the Gold Coast), Saigon, Long Xuyen, Pago Pago.
I may have forgotten some of the places, . . . but that's OK, . . . having fun was important, . . . remembering wasn't.
May God bless,
Dwight
