| Next forgotten war?
I'm starting to get a little ticked off. I and my wife have had a number of people make statements about the war being over and all the troops being back. They are shocked to find out I am deploying next year, saying "I thought the war was over". Now I hear a presidential candidate say the conflict is over, and not in the context of just Iraq. And he's a republican to boot. Over eh? Guess I missed the memo...

The problem is the misconception brought on by politicians and the news media. The "war" is a war on terrorism. It is worldwide. Iraq and Afghanistan are campaigns of that war. The campaign in Iraq appears to be over and the campaign in Afghanistan is winding down. Whether those two campaigns are really "over" is a matter yet to be decided.
Hard to declare a game "over" unilaterally while the other side is still playing. The "war" itself is still "game on", some politicians and most of the news media just can't figure that out is all.

I often wonder how many troops are actually left in Iraq, Its such BS and misleading. All they want you to know is that there are no more combat troops left. That seems like a stupid decision. What if SHTF again, are we leaving all the support troops like engineers to hang in the breeze? It only going to be a matter of time before the troops that were brought back are going to head off to Afghanistan. Crafty SOBS. I don't think I would have a warm and fuzzy knowing that all the guys that shoot move and communicate are across the border in Kuwait. What is the response time? What gets said when that comm comes over? We'll be there in a couple of hours?

"I thought the war was over"
I've been hearing that since 2009. It seems like the only people that give a shit are the veterans and those who are affected.

Garrard you hit the nail on the head. Now what will be interesting to me is how many more contractors are sent over there to keep doing the job that the troops were doing just making a hell of a lot more. For disclosure I have a good buddy doing K9 contracting through a company for the state department and he is making 160,000 a year min, and he has his 20 year retirement. If you think I am hating on those doing contracting I’m not, I’m hating on a government who want to say the job is done when it obviously isn’t, (the day after the last of American combat troops leave the country the PM issues an arrest warrant for the VP, coincidence I think not.) and now will probably just amp up contracting jobs.

-The Iraqi Government can hire all the Contractors It Wants...And Pay For Them, Not Us!
-Maybe, Maybe---Our Military's Job IS Done---I Would Argue THE MILITARY'S Job Was Done Back When Bush Declared Victory! IF, IF Our Military Has To Go Back Over There Again, It Should Be IN THE AIR!, Not On The Ground!
-Ok, The PM Accuses The VP Of Corruption...DUH!
(Was Hamid Karzai of Afghanistan a Warlord, And Will He Go Back To Being One AFTER He Is President?)
THAT IS WHY---We Are Wasting Our Time, Our Money, And Our Military Over There...

It's a play on words, like "kinetic military action" and "only military advisors". I read that more than 50,000 advisors are staying behind in Iraq.

I wonder how many troops we will keep in Kuwait as a QRF? The war is not over and probably won't be for a long time. We still have to invade Syria and Iran before it is truly wrapped up. Heck come to think about it we probably should take out a take Saudi Arabia and Yemen while we are there.
