Two soldiers were posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor for their actions during the Korean War.
Anthony T. Kaho’ohanohano and Henry Svehla, both Army privates 1st class
when they were killed in action in the Korean War, were awarded the MOH by President Obama on Tuesday, May 3, 2011.
PFC Kaho'ohanohano, acting as squad leader, ordered his men to a
more defensible position, then returned alone to hold off the enemy.
Despite being wounded already, he expended all of his ammo and
grenades, and then killed 11 enemy soldiers in hand-to-hand combat before being killed himself.
PFC Svehla led a charge on enemy positions when an attack began to falter due to withering small arms fire,
suffering a serious facial wound in the process. When a grenade landed among his comrades,
Svehla dove on it to save them.
Hooah! Too bad it took 60+ years for them to be recognized.
