I recently watched the series, don't have HBO so I waited until I could buy it.
I thought it was very well done, but I was expecting no less than that. I appreciate the effort it looks like it took to put this whole thing on film. The sacrifices made by those who served in the Pacific Theater deserves better from hollywood than that crap clint eastwood put out.
I have never read "With The Old Breed" and went looking for it after watching this. I found a copy at the mall, on the back cover was a picture of the actor, in character, and not Eugene Sledge. For some reason this put me off, I think the kid who played him in the series did a hell of a job, but I just didn't buy it. I'm going to get a copy of the book that is older than the mini - series.
