Reinstatement of Stolen Valor Act

There's an article on the Marine Corps League national webpage describing MCL efforts to have congress pass legislation which will pass legal scrutiny since a federal judge has declared the Stolen Valor Act in its present form to be unconstitutional. This seems somewhat hypocritical because a league and Devil Dog top department official has been observed and photographed on numerous occasions wearing unearned rank and decoration on unearned dress blues and this fact has been widely reported. According to national, this is a district matter. Perhaps I'm alone in this interpretation, but when a league official who flunked out of OCS after three weeks and never earned a globe and anchor in any capacity is able to (by a wave of the magic swagger stick of a higher league official), become a full member and Marine Corps League official something is clearly amiss. In the opinion of this organization, does earning the title Marine really mean this little?

Well, actions do speak louder than words. They can say they want posers punished all they want but if they shift the responsibility of outing posers in their own organization, then it seems to me like the title of Marine doesn't mean much to them.

Let's see if the Supreme Court doesn't reverse the left coast 9th Circuit in the Alvarez case, which will be argued in the spring. That court has already detoured away from Alvarez in a follow-up case over display of bogus decorations in violation of Stolen Valor. SCOTUS will be addressing the false braggadocio speech issue and the 1st Amendment. Worst thing Congress could do with Stolen Valor is to start messing with it while it's before the SCOTUS.

Thanks from CAVman and willriskit

I say cut to the chase and enact a federal law that makes it a $10 fine for stomping a poser into a grease spot.

It's still business as usual in the "Snow Me" state, land of the counterfeit commandantress. Much ado is being made by the top MCL officials about supporting a new version of the stolen valor act while that organization continues to support and shelter posers of its own. So much for credibility...
