| Promag M1A precision stock review
I received my stock and stripped down my rifle and began fitting as this is NOT a drop in stock. The first issue was that the front handguard retainer would not go around the molded bushing section so I filed it to the same dimension as my metal one. When I began insertion into the stock I found mold sprue on the left side and a slight overmold on the right side. I filed it to fit and continued.

| Promag review part 2
I went and put the action in the stock and went to install my trigger group and it would not lockup. I marked the trigger group where it contacted the stock and removed approx. .050" of the mold and dressed with a file. It locked in and is a solid lock. I wanted to see how a magazine went in and was pleasently surprised that the magwell was so generous. I am going to paint the stock after I wring it out and see how it does. It is comfortable to hold and the cheekpiece is easily adjusted and the lop is a positive click and the pic rail has a solid definition and I'll install a bipod and scope and see how it does. That's what I have found so far. The first pic is of the molded reinforcement in the barrel channel. John

Very nice crusher. I can't wait to get your range report. Can you give us a full profile picture and weight of the stock?
Thanks

Thank you for the preliminary report.
I don't mind fitting the action to the stock.
The important issue to me is how it shoots.
Look forward to your range report.
Thanks again for being our tester.

Here it is assembled without scope and mount. I zeroed it at 50 and reset the pinon and went to 100 and emptied the magazine to get settled in. My load was 147gr. fmjbt in LC73 cases with CCI #34 primers and 45grs. of TAC. I ran my dupe 168FGMM loads and halved my groups but didn't save that target as I was more concerned with getting settled. The last pic is of my go to load. 150gr. SIE HPBT match, LC73case, CCI#34 and 46.0gr. RL15. The stock was very comfortable and the grip was natural and cheekweld was there. The rifle with a loaded mag weighs 12.2lbs. I'm looking forward to putting glass on her and see what she'll do @600.

Looking good crusher. Thanks for the range report and the weight. Is it more accurate? Less? Same?

Thank you again for the range report. Will be on my wish list.
I am still working on my unfinished laminated stock.(Shaping it to a USGI stock size) But it looks like it would make a good hunting stock.

My rifle loves my go to load but this is the tightest iron shots I think I've done with this rifle (usually -2"). I've had her in Wood, GI glass,Sage, and a folder. I went with this stock because I broke my right arm and several bones in my hand. Old age (arthritis) has caught up with it and the grip has a palm swell that relieves the pressure. I basically do a finger to palm grip and my thumb is not squeezing the back of the grip. That's the comfort part.

Looks good, might have to add this to my wishlist! JAE is just too far out of reach for us Blue Collers.

+1 - a JAE with all the options costs more than most of my M14s did - This Promag stock looks like it's gonna work great & it's certainly priced within the reach of a lowly welder like myself! LOL!! |

Thanks for all the great info. I've been scrimping and saving for a JAE, but for my needs the Pro Mag seems much more reasonable. I have one question, I'm no gunsmith, but I'm not a complete moron either, does this mod fall somewhere in-between the two??

Very simple to do. Patience and dremel and a file is all I used.
