Petitioning Magpul for an M14 Stock

I was looking for a lightweight alternative to a wood stock, and USGI fiberglass was the obvious choice. Eventually those stocks will dwindle and disappear, as we all know. When searching for economical alternatives, there aren't many (SAI and Archangel come to mind). JAE and other carbon fiber alternatives are expensive. What would be nice is something like the Magpul Hunter 700 stock for the M14, any thoughts?

Thanks from Warowl

I would love it if they made one the same size/shape as a mcmillan using their aluminum bedding block.

I agree with this 100%. A lightweight stock with aluminum bedding would be a nice addition.

We should get them to make mags first.

I would love a Magpul stock, but I'm not sold on an M14 PMAG. Every polymer M14 mag I've ever tried got chewed up to the point it no longer fed properly. I'm sure Magpul would be the one to get it right, but I'm thinking there's a reason they haven't done it yet.

Forget the mags. CMI just needs to correct the follower issue. A Magpul stock would be pretty sweet.

I'm not sure if the poly mags would hold up to the rocking insertion of the M14.

I have thought it would be sweet if magpul came up with a stock similar to their 700 stock. Here's the problem...the M14 is a small niche market. Look at what AG is doing right now, mass producing Rem 700 stocks and halting all their M14 stocks. Additionally, it seems anything having quality and M14/M1A in the same sentence, equates to high price. More than many are willing to pay.

The M14/M1A also takes some mechanical skill to accurize. In a market full of easy, bolt-on options for lego guns, the M14/M1A appears to be finicky to that crowd...which is a lot of folks. You and I know that's not true.

It seems like a few companies have been able to flourish due to wartime activities. Sage comes to mind, but this isn't the norm.

With all that being said, Magpul is a large company in the firearms industry. From what I've seen they make decent products and sound business decisions...like moving out of CO. Somehow you'd have to convince this large business there's money to be had with such an endeavor.

What's wrong with the followers in CMI Mags? Aren't they current issue with the military...

Some of them want hold/lock the bolt back on the last round. Heated discussions about this recently.

I think it would become profitable because of the eventual elimination of the USGI fiberglass. At least in my state, Montana, there is an M1A in virtually every major retailer. Unlike other rifles, M14 users are virtually a captive audience with only a few options. There is already a vacuum in the market, all we need to do is establish a demand to the guys at Magpul. If this thread picks up enough support for the idea, maybe we can start said demand pressure.

I would love to see a good sturdy magpul stock. Preferably one that doesn't look like it came off a Star Wars movie.

Thanks from Snyper762, hytekrednek and Hemi45

They are. Seems that the newer batches have slightly different bolt catch engagement tabs.

You are starting to see more of them in my neck of the woods but not really a selection. Roughly 60% of privately owned shops have closed. Big box stores and the internet put a hurting on the little guys.
