USGI Fiberglass meets Vietnam Tiger Camo

Hi Everyone,

Had a forum member contact me about painting a SAI synthetic stock in Vietnam Camo. I have quite a few USGI fiberglass stocks and I had several that I had reinforced the front forearm with carbon fiber so he decided to go with a USGI fiberglass stock and a new paint job.

* Stock - USGI Fiberglass
* Filled full-auto cut-out with Marine-Tex
* Reinforced the forearm with Carbon Fiber Strips (sealed with Marine-Tex) both sides [very stiff]
* Paint - Aluma Hyde II [Black Matte, OD Green ->hand painted Brown * Earth and Coyote]
* Camo Pattern - M1Army Modified Vietnam Camo - I hand cut the templates so each stock is unique.
* Rear Hardware - fully refinished - used Brownells baked on paint for the back plate (I really like that stuff!!)

Enjoy a few Pics - M1Army

Wes the stock is rather interesting,BUT what REALLY CAUGHT my eye is what you have in the Mason Jars. That Looks like some good ol boy Georgia shine for the holidays that Santa's stock maker has been getting into.
Marry Christmas Wes from your Southern cousin in So Cal.
Pfc out

That is really nice work but not what I would have envisioned as Vietnam camo. But I guess that could be subjective as to what that really is. Nicely done!

Hi - WaM14gunner

I call this M1Army Modified Vietnam Camo - (various patterns exist, but the one in 1st pic below is the one I try to emulate and see most often). The challenge is the butt stock has a little surface area to work with, then you have very little space to work the horizontal pattern as you move forward. It is not perfect but the black lines separated by the green and brown and lighter elephant grass is the pattern.

I was expecting to see the ERDL predominantly green camo pattern that was used in Vietnam. It's the pattern on the poncho liner and camo utilities from that era. Your pattern is tiger stripe camo and it was used more by the ARVN's. Looks nice though.

Thanks from Quicksilvergoat and M1Army

I was hoping for the same thing. I wonder if I could find someone to do ERDL.
