I use in order of preference:

1. Naphtha. Highly volatile and flammable but most effective. Evaporates rapidly. Use excellent ventilation. Best used outdoors.
2. Pure ethanol. I work in a lab so getting this is quite simple and it has the benefit of being non-toxic. Vendors provide free samples.
3. Odorless mineral spirits. Use excellent ventilation. Best used outdoors.

Nothing touches my stocks that have even a trace of water. Raises the grain.
