Don't like the feel of those stocks. Handled similarly oversize Garand 'match' stocks.
They're wood and thicker = stiffer. The M1/M14 stocks are kinda weak in the mag/trigger group area. They wood gets real thin when ya go to bed them , relieve the wood for bedding compound , so a thicker stock give more room to work.
Modern synthetic stock are stiffer than wood.
The original GI fiberglass stocks weren't all that strong in those areas either.
I think the thicker, heavier NM stocks were made to better fit the more manly men. Just like a man's bicycle is much bigger and heavier than a boy's bicycle, the NM stocks are thicker, heavier, stiffer, and stronger than the standard issue stocks, many of which were made out of plastic just like many toys.
Myself, I like M14 stocks custom made from high strength steel.
