I was routing a stock yesterday and the dremel got away from me for a split second. I have a small area outside the stock that I need to hit with stain.
Do any of you know which stain I can buy to match the Boyd's factory walnut stain?
Probably not the answer you are looking for, but might consider just using some dark walnut stain and you can apply and wipe off a bit to lessen any color difference to get a close match. My thoughts are that even if it does not perfectly blend, think of it as a "character mark." Kind of like those so called "beauty moles" one sees on some Hollywood vixens(my mind wonders at times where it shouldn't.) I have seen some very find shooting M14's from the Serv. teams and the stocks still had some file marks, scratches, mars, etc. but "pretty is as pretty does."
I use leather shoe dye. Angelus brown has a decent reddish-brown color. Fiebings leather dye is another good choice. Dilute any water based or spirit dye with denatured alcohol to achieve the desired color.
