Hi Everyone,

I just finished a number of USGI stocks -> “Finishing Top of Class for June & Shown Below!” They all have homes with members here on the M14forum and will be in service soon!

I hand-picked all of the stocks over the past year+ [and refinished each “Raw Stock” after working with each member]. I use teak oil, but use a [significant “preparation and progressive refinish process” that has evolved over time after much trial and ERROR]! I also strip all the stock hardware and refinish it and that makes a big difference when you put it all back together [no short cuts exist]!

This base refinish process was developed and shared by forum member Doug Carlton who I always thank and is a great resource for our M14forum! I have built up a very nice “raw inventory” of Elite USGI Stocks; the stocks shown below were some of my best stocks [but I have more in my Georgia Shop!].

For those that know me I was married last August 30th and my wife finally came down to my work shop a few months ago -> she asked me what I was going to do with all the stocks! I told her it was kinda like her handbags and I really had no idea how I got so many USGI stocks [You can tell I was single for a while as I was treading on slippery ground] but I told her I would sell a few – you know with the “dumb” look on my face!

I hope you enjoy the pictures below! It was great fun working with each forum member to narrow down choices and find “that perfect piece of USGI Wood” for their barreled receiver and trigger group.

Enjoy - M1Army

====================================================================================

Stock #1 -> 100% Striped Big Red [one of the most symmetrical figured stocks ever] – this throws off different looks depending on light conditions -> it demands attention – it is a “Brute”……

Stock #2 -> Striped, Banded, Heavy Grained Big Red! Very unique striping pattern and beautiful stock – “Watch out!”

Stock #3 – Beautiful “True Big Red” -> this one is Beefy and has deep redish-brown tones! It was hard to put this stock down as it just felt like it needed to be shot!!

Stock 4 - TRW – “The Best” TRW I have ever picked – named it the “Yorktown” after a very important battle! I have several other TRW’s in raw condition but this one set the bar high!

Stock #5 – HRA – I picked this stock a long-time ago and it is just amazing particularly when you take it outside! This stock had a massive transformation from the raw unfinished state!

Stock #6 – A “Real Walnut Big Red” Springfield Armory [Stamped S.A. under the butt plate] – shown in my SAI Scout – but will be used in an XM21/M21 build. I have (7) more of these beautiful Big Red Walnuts! The true “Big Red” walnut stocks are just amazing. I will be refinishing one of these for my JRA M21-DMR build – just need to figure out which one!

Stock #7 – Another “Real Walnut Big Red” Springfield Armory [Stamped S.A. under the butt plate] – shown in my SAI Scout – but will be used in an XM21/M21 build. This one has more figuring [but I have straight grained Walnuts too!]. Beefy and Mean describes this stock!

Stock #8…… H. Sacks & Son’s Inc. #129 -> Oh so close, but not quite ready – shown just after wet sanding teak oil “still very - wet” – just a few tricks away from being ready! This one has HEAVY striping and amazing contrasting color! A few days away from buffing, waxing and assembling the hardware.

First off, congratulations M1Army, I didn't know you got married last August!

Second, all of those stocks are amazingly beautiful, I recognize mine from those pics!

If any forum member here has thought about buying a refinished stock from M1Army, do it! The pics don't do justice to the beauty of seeing the stocks in person. I can't wait to put my action into my Big Red Birch! BGRIN1

Stock Hardware PM's - thought I would answer below for others.

Been asked about the stock hardware - I have a way to re-park the front ferrule and swivel without removing them from the stock. It they look good I leave them - but if it is beat up I repark.

I always re-park the butt plate flapper, rear swivel and stock liner. I also refinish the butt plate rear plate which is aluminum. I have all the equipment in my shop, but it does take time! I refinish the hardware in groups of about 8-10 sets at a time so I have some ready!

I also refinish the USGI Handguards with Aluma Hyde II black matte epoxy! They just blend with the barreled receiver better IMHO and I include one with each stock.

Hope this helps!

Here are examples of the Handguards.

One of those looks kinda familiar for some reason. I am just amazed at how fantastic all those stocks came out. They all looked pretty special as raw stocks when you first brought them home, but they finished beautifully! You are simply an artist. Well done Wes, and congratulations on your marriage.

If anyone is looking for a fine USGI stock, I can recommend Wes as a great source.

Those are some of the most beautiful stocks I have ever seen. I'm pretty partial to "Yorktown" but knowing how much work Wes puts into each stock they are all absolutely phenomenal! If anyone wants a real USGI stock done right, my money has gone and will continue to go to Wes!
Also, you couldn't find a nicer guy to do business with. Thank for everything

I am building a Presentation grade XM21/M21 and wanted a stock that not only was correct for my build but it had to be perfect, like straight off the assembly line.

And that's what Wes delivered, a stock which anyone would be hard pressed to tell from new. He goes to great lengths to bring these old stocks back to new condition, he even reparks the stock liner, front ferrule and sling swivel. If you want he can even repark the butt plate to like original!

When I finally get this rifle completed, I will post pictures. It will have no equal!

Thanks Wes!
