False DAS?

As many of you know, seller VSR on gunbroker has been essentially accused of putting an aftermarket or false DAS onto his stocks. Myself, and others from what I've read, have messaged him asking about the legitimacy of the DAS on his stocks since they appear fake. I've received an earful from him about the different DAS styles and how his stocks are 100% legit.

Then tonight, I see that he is "installing" a DAS now. Is this an admission of guilt?

My personal experience with him. I bought one of his stocks a while back. At the time, he had listed a set of M1 Garand stamps. I asked if he had M14 stamps as well. He said yes, but not for sale. I asked if he "stamped his stocks" and he told me and I do quote, "NO, not unless someone specifically requests it." Just my experience with him. He had called me the day after I won the stock and we spoke for well over an hour. Real nice "ole timer" to chat with I must add.
ETA, I've not seen any negative discussions here about him, can you post a link?
ETA 2, from his written description in the auction>> on request I can install the cartouche

I'll look for the thread, its been many months since it was talked about. It believe it may have been a PX thread with one of his stocks for sale, then that spiraled into the DAS convo.

And I saw that, I referenced his "installing a cartouche" in the OP.

The stamps were listed in Shoot Gun News 15 years ago. Many people know of them then and saw people selling restamped stocks.

Buyer be aware on M1 stocks.

I remember reading, on the website of a well known rifle building shop, about their willingness to stamp stocks with inspector's initials, acceptance stamps, etc. several years ago and it bugged the heck out of me.

If people are willing to pay for stocks with the ID marks they want, then there will be people willing to supply stocks with those very same ID marks. Whether they are original or "aftermarket".

Just like the M14 magazine stuff that was real bad a few years ago. Somewhere, someone, will do whatever it takes to make money.

I feel sorry for the novice collector/buyer right now and in the future. There are so many outright fake and "restored" M1 Garands, M1 Carbines and 1911 and 1911A1's out there it is mind boggling. Every time a guy that finds an early WWII serial number reciever and then feels compelled to "restore" the rifle to original, as issued condition, he has created a fake, all the guys that feel the need to touch up, add, replace stock stamps and cartouche's, f 'n fakes! Now I have replaced painted on rack numbers on a M14 stock after I have refinished it, but hey paint will come right off if some guy down the road doesn't like it! I know that these are just M14 stocks and are not do not really have collector value execpt for the quality, pattern, beauty, condition of the wood(E2's and T44 stocks are collectable) but overall the guys that do this do a disservice to the hobby of gun collecting. Fakery exsits in all areas of collecting, look at Colt SAA's and Winchester's. Wherever there is a buck to be had, there will be fakes and cons.

As always folks, you need to do your homework and only buy from people you know or come recommended.

Collecting anything requires an education first or you are asking to be taken. It happens I know even to the well seasoned educated buyer just not nearly as much. If you don't know ask!

If I can help I will or I will tell you where you can find the answer you seek.

Very hard to tell. but $750!? I better get a reach around for that price.

Maybe they stamped it then sanded it down to cover their tracks lol
