I have a Vltor with Foliage Green buttstock and grip and I'd like to paint the stock to match (it's currently black). I was wanting to stay with rattlecan. I have Rustoleum Camo Army Green and Krylon Dual Camp Green and they do not match.
I did some searching and found the following information for you. Foliage Green has the Federal Standard number of 34160. This means it's a flat finish (3), green (4) and is a darker shade of green (160). I checked the available paints supposedly matching the FS number or color and found many makers claiming to have foliage green, however almost none state they match the FS coding. Both Duracoat and Cerakote show a foliage green but neither say they match the FS code (IIRC, I read somewhere they don't match each other so at least one is wrong). Same with the other paint companies.
There is one company that does make its paints to match the FS, Testors' Model Master paints. However, they don't make foliage green 34160 but they do make SAC Bomber Green 34159 which appears to be an extremely close match. Testors paints can be found at almost all hobby/model shops as well as Hobby Lobby. I don't know if it's available in spray cans, but you can easily use a wide (1/4 - 1/2 inch) brush to apply. These paints are made for plastics so should be very durable on stocks. I've used them on some of my firearms and if over coated with a flat clear coat as very resistant to wear and tear. Plus, they're fairly inexpensive. The bottles are less than $5 and the spray cans less than $10 (it's been years since I've bought any, but either one will cover quite a few items.
If you go this way and need help on surface and paint prep, feel free to PM me and I'll tell you how to. It's a lot easier than people think to get an excellent result.
HTH
One quick note, Testors MM colors are matches to the FS colors when dry. Take the grip with you and compare it to the color chip on the display to see if it matches, NOT the paint in the jar as the colors change slightly as they dry.
Thanks for doing that research for me and for the tips also. I hadn't thought about Testors, I'll go to Hobby Lobby to follow up on that. I'm sure there are serious modelers who demand exact matches.
The Krylon is actually darker and more green than the Foliage. The Rustoleum Camo Army Green is lighter than the Foliage, it may be more what you are looking for. Don't know if that helps.
I did pick up some Testors SAC Bomber Green and another green (I think it was OD) that looked like a possibility. I'll test and post pics of them and the Krylon and Rustoleum along w/the foliage butt stock when I get a chance.

Well, the Aervoe Foliage Green didn't match either. Here's a couple pics:
Looks like the Testers Bomber Green is the closest to me. Here is the Aervoe on the stock, and from left to right: Testers Flat Olive Drab, Krylon Dual Camp Green, Testers Bomber Green, and Rust-oleum Camouflage 2X Army Green.
Here you can see the Bomber Green is still a couple of shades off. When I had it on the stock it didn't look that close.
