Being in the UK we get only a limited supply of parts for our straight pull M1/M14 rifles, been offered a used M1 Garand stock set, will look better than the new set thats on the rifle.
The stock has these stamps that I would like to ID.
P in a square not a circle under the wrist is this common? only ever seen circle.
Large RROD on left side of stock what does this stand for?
To continue on bnz41's; I have a walnut stock (came on CMP IHC SN: 5.06) which has the boxed P w/o serif, but does not have any acceptance stamp OR a rebuild mark. The only other mark is a '3' under the butt plate - no mark under the stock ferrule. Has 1 5/8" barrel channel. And, the receiver does not have rebuild marks. Wish I could post photos, but unable to. With this info, would you guys mind giving me your ideas of any clues of the ID and particularly why it would have boxed P, but not a rebuild cartouche? Many thanks.
RRAD is Red River Army Depot never heard of RROD and would guess that the O you are seeing is a partial A. As to the question in the later post a boxed P is always a sign of reproof at rebuild and as to why no other marks are present, sometimes the rebuild facilities marked them sometimes not. At various time frames they were also marked in different places and over time and with use the marks disappeared. The LEAD ink marked stocks are just one example of rebuild markings that quickly disappeared.
