Mounting bipod stud/rail in a Boyds walnut stock?

I have a Boyds oversized walnut stock - BOYDS' # 200-929 replacement stock. Is it possible to mount a bipod stud or rail so I can attach a bipod? Will the wood crack over time if I drill into it to attach the nessesary metal?

I have a bipod stud mounted in the forearm of my boyds stock and it has held up for 2 years. Deppending on wear you would like to put the stud i would recess the hole so that the bolt on the top of the stud clears the op rod, and make sure to use a larger washer on the inside and small one on the out side.
Good Shooting.

I made my own out of a single wood grip stud and a bolt here are some pics. Dont mind the all the crap on the end i bought it off a friend and it had all those holes so i found things to fill them.

Here is a pic of the stud and bolt.

Also if you dont feel like DIYing it you can buy one of these.

For this one you must recesse the wood in the forearm.

This one is made for the M14/M1A, and reqieres removing the sling loop in the front.

This one seems to be exactly what I need. It will fit into the existing holes in the stock so I don't have to do any drilling. Seems like this system is really perfect. Do you know of anyone who has used this one?

No i dont know any one that has this one but i will tell you that anything that bolts into the existing holes i good. Predrilled holes in the boyds stocks are all coated with sealers to help from cracking so that mount would be your best bet. In order to remove the rivited in front sling loop you must drill out the rivits from the inside of the stock.
Good Shooting.
