$10 bipod rail project...pic heavy

Im posting from a cell phone so I will add details later but the pictures pretty well cover it. Wanted to share in case others are interested. It ended up rock solid plus its removeable. I JB Welded the threaded inserts in place and obviously cut the bolts to sit flush. This is a Rem 870 rail and the concave back mated perfectly with the GI stock forend.

I should add that this really stiffened up the forearm as well believe it or not. Now I need to start bipod shopping!

The Weaver mount certainly is less expensive than the swivel/bipod base replacement that is sold, and installation certainly isn't beyond most here on the site. With a little extra effort...it should go easily on a wooden stock as well. You did a very nice job.

Really nice. Sure has got me to thinking about doing the same thing on one of my stocks. Have a few rails laying around from different projects and one of them is just begging to be used.

Where did you get the threaded inserts though?

Ace Hardware. That is where I picked up the longer allen bolts as well.

Very nice

I have my M1A Scout with a walnut stock coming this week. Is it easy to remove the rifle from the stock to do this?

Thank you,

Rich
