| walnut stock markings
I recently picked up a complete M14 parts kit and am wondering if anyone can help me with a question about the stock. The parts (trigger group, barrel, op rod, etc) are all stamped H&R. I purchased it with the remains of a cut receiver still attached to the barrel. The walnut stock has no markings on it at all except for a SA stamped behind the butt plate. It also came with the vented handguard and a web sling with what appears to be a rack number painted in white on the metal buckle. Given the excellent overall condition of the parts, including the 61 dated barrel, with a throat gauge reading of 1, I am curious to know if this is the original stock or a replacement. I realize that a stock could be swapped out at any point, for any reason.
I have had several knowledgable people look at it and one says the stock is a replacement, the other, a self confessed M14 guru ( ) indicating that he carried an H&R in Vietnam and that they did NOT all have a DOD or acceptance cartouche.
Any comments???
