I believe it is an import mark.

Iron Worker,

Your rifle is what's known as a "Blue Sky" M1, imported from Korea.

Swampy, did Excel import the Blue Skys, or did they just sell some of them. IIRC, I've seen barrels marked "Blue Sky", too.

I appreciate the replies, the rifle belongs to a friend and he wanted to know a little more about it.
Its a SA 1,474,*** with a Winchester 5-67 barrel and birch wood stocks that may not be GI .It also has some painted metal on the hanguards and appears to be arsenal reparked light grey .

Thanks again

Gentlemen,
I may be dead wrong on this one. But it might help. Way back in the late 60's Excel got in a small shipment of M1 Garands/Carbines. Many had British Proof Marks. The deal was that they could only sell them to police in the US. A letter with the Police Dept heading was needed to sell these. However, back in late 80's Excel got the go ahead to sell them to anyone because of the M1's coming in from overseas. Many that I look at where in great shape.
Thanks again BUT don't take this to the BANK.
