M89 30 cal. blanks

I have recently inherited a nearly full can of 30-06 blank ammunition. As you can see in the pics, it's marked M89, is full length with a crimp, and I believe it was made in Israel by IMI. I can't seem to find anything searching on the internet for this stuff except a couple of people trying to sell it.

Do any of you have any idea what the intended use is and for which rifle?

I am not sure but have seen some fired empty cases... 'to fire rifle grenades'? in M1 garands or presentation ceromionies (sp)

They work real good in Garands with a blank firing adaptor. Our legion post has a bunch of that stuff. Feeds more reliably than USGI blanks.

I do have a Garand. I just want to be sure these aren't for firing grenades. I also don't know if the pressure is similar to M1909 blanks. I assume to use these (if they're safe for my rifle) I would need a blank firing adapter. I just couldn't seem to find any information anywhere.
Also, I apologize if this is in the wrong forum. I thought I was posting in the ammunition forum.

Be careful, this is not true. These are Grenade firing rounds. Much stronger than regular blanks. Using them with blank firing adapters will either blow the adapter off the Garand or damage the op rod, etc.

The only blanks you should use are the flat top ones with the red inserts.

I thought grenade rounds had a "Folded Crimp" and blanks were "Rosette" crimped.

Thumbs up

Those ARE regular 30/06 blanks for use in the Garand & Browning MGs.
I've used them in Garands u. BARs for years for reenacting.
Have to check my rekords, but it seems that I drilled out the hole in the Garand BFA to the next size from the US blanks???
If you don't want them I'd be interested.

US blanks for use with the blank adapter are flat on top and have a red colored insert in the neck.

I would like to use them. I just don't want to get an adapter that builds too much pressure and destroy my rifle. If you have used them, let me know what sort of adapter you used with them (and what size aperture it has). I still don't have one and would like to know what to get.

Listen, I know I'm a dumb!&@. This topic leaves me so confused. The blank firing adapter is just to make the rifle cycle???? Blank or grenade should safely fire, just won't cycle the bolt??????. Again its stupid because your just after a bang but is this wrong???

I have made my own BFAs for the past 35+ years. They are a copy of the Army issued BFAs (I have one). I also make them for about everything used in WW 2 and some of the Viet Nam War weapons.
For the Garand I use a #22 drill.
I'll have to look, I may still have a couple to sell?
If you are going to buy one somewhere, My suggestion to you is that you get one and try it. See how far it throws an empty case compared to how far it throws an empty for a live round. It should be similar, but a little bit less. IF you think it is throwing to far - which would indicate to much pressure - drill it out the next hole size. NEVER go 2 or 3 sizes larger as you will end up with a BFA that doesn't work and is now trash!

Why the confusion? A semi or full auto weapon will Not cycle using blanks unless the bore is restricted to trap the gas which is what cycles the weapon - whether a gas operated or a blow back type.
Yep, we are just after getting the weapon to "go bang" and Bang,Bang,Bang w/o having to manually cycle the action. IF you did that you would have the same as a bolt action rifle!
