I can use a few more garands, maybe I should try this...

Put my 2 M1's in the safe together alone, some candles, a jar of plastilube, some Barry White and Teddy Pendergrass playing softly in the background...

If that worked my safe would have exploded by now...

new M1

OK, found some time and here is a few pics. Will try to get a full shot tomorrow in daylight. SA bolt, Criterion barrel, WRA op rod, SA trigger group, not sure the rest, mix no doubt. Stock is in need of more finish. I may get some tung oil, not gonna mess with neverdry.

That's a CMP Special, they are excellent rifles. You will not be disappointed. Like others said, lube her up and shoot her. That rifle was built by CMP Armorer's, should you have any issues, even though you are not the original owner, you can always call them for advice.

IMHO, You are smart not to shoot the corrosive stuff in her, keep an eye out for PPU and S&B ammo made specifically for the M-1 Garand. HXP is sometimes available on the CMP E-Store website.

Go through your en blocs, USGI ones work best. I really like the WW II and Post War ones as they will handle the newer wide cut extractor groove (NATO style) ammo as well as the older style narrow cut extractor groove ammo.

Good luck with the rifle, also beware that having this rifle will force you to seek out a CMP Special M-1 Garand in .308....Ask me how I know!

Thumbs up

Howdy,

In the nineties I worked for an auction house and handled a couple hundred M1's of every kind.

Never had one nor shot one.

Finally bought a mint H&R, took it to the range and found out what everyone was talking about.

Had to sell off most of my guns in 2004 to purchase inventory.

That M1 is one of the few I really miss.

Keep yer powder dry and yer metal surfaces lubed,

John

This being my third Garand, its not a stranger to me. I have a case of Fed Match coming today for this rifle that I got for a song off GB. Thanks all!

Not great lighting but here is the whole dang rifle. Looks pretty much like most M1's I guess. Hope to shoot it soon.
