A faux A4 is a good suggestion. I have gone that route with very nice results at a most reasonable cost. The local pawn shop has been a good supplier of O3/A3s. Find 'em, fix 'em and shoot the s***t out of them, great fun to rehab and even more fun on the range.

Thanks from TCAF

Lurp, How does it shoot? I would leave the barrel if its a good shooter. Stocks can be found on gunbroker or ebay as well as the handguards cheap. As far a stock hardware goes sarco has the best deal at 50$ http://www.e-sarcoinc.com/03a3bandan...tcomplete.aspx .
The last set I bought was all remington, unlike the first set that had some repro foreign parts. I built 2 rifles for less than 400 each.

Thanks from 3Gunnah, habu1, WaM14gunner and 1 others

mcv, Very well done, you made my point nicely. A little TLC and you have saved another "Old Warrior" for a few more rounds.

Yall remember now that all those recent faux 03A4 rifles were built from beater drill rifles, and look how they turned out! Man fix that rifle like you want it, then go wear it out!

I suspect that's where the better part of the NOS parts went to, also - bought up by Gibbs to build those rifles.

To make it a correct faux 03A4 the biggest issue would be where the holes are located on the receiver. If it has 2 piece bases then it is highly unlikely that a correct one piece base will match. Because it has already had a scope on it I am assuming the bolt has been bent.

I built a faux 1903A4 from a drill rifle rifle. All of the metal was there. Cleaned up the welds, put on a new criterion barrel, turned down bolt from Chuckindenver, Lyman Alaskan scope.

I also found a NM 1903 that had been sporterized into a match rifle. I lucked out that it had already been D&T for a unertl bases. I had a C stock that needed some work and put together a 1903A1 Unertl sniper.

The CMP sells nice repro 1903 C stocks that may need a little relieving here and there. Keep in mind that they are 1903 stock and not 03A3 stocks. The diffrence is it is missing the relief cut for the receiver ring that the O3A3 needs for the hand guard.

If you are handy with wood working a less expensive option would be the damaged scant stocks from Numrich. Usually they are NOS scant stocks that have some damage to the tip. I have bought several of them and have always been happy with the end result.

Very nice rifles guys.

Does the barrel profile affect a A3 stock and hand guard fit? i still don't have the gun but thanks for the link to the parts.

Most of the sporters I have seen still have the military barrels that have had the markings ground off. I had to cut a front sight base and reweld it to fit on the ground down barrel on my 1903 with lyman sights. I have also welded up the holes in the scope base and re-drilled the base to match the reciever holes. Measure your barrel when you get it to make sure it is not cut down...should be 24 inches. Any shorter looks a little funky with the stock/handguard with a short barrel. I can't see where a thinner profile barrel would affect the fit.

Well I only paid like $50 for this one and I got 50 rounds of ammo and a gift card to scheels for $25. So either something is really wrong with it or my father in law likes me....

Hopefully I will have it soon to show you guys

Thanks from WaM14gunner
