Trying to decide next fun gun!

This will be a strictly fun range gun. Putting a smile on my face, punching holes in non living objects, getting fondled will be it's purpose. Both are in the low $600 range.
Narrowed it down to either an M1 carbine or a mini 14.
I'm pretty set in the 556 world with my ar rifles. Still have several mini 14 mags from my last one.
The M1 is a non collector grade shooter. Been cerakoted parkerized gray, has scout rail, a few mags. Don't know if it's an import or not so assuming it is.

The mini will be a 582-3 series, don't care what finish, may or may not have threaded barrel. I think I'm sure which way I'm going and need to stock up on carbine ammo. Just checking to see if anyone is interested in present a case for one or the other.

You have 5.56 ammo.
You have Mini-14-mags.
You have other Mini-14s, so ergo repair/replacement parts.

I would go Mini-14, threaded.

(also since it sounds like you are leaning toward the M1-Carbine I think somebody needs to make this an even harder decision for you pointing out some reasons to reconsider )

Thanks from Snyper762

I actually don't currently have a mini at the moment. I sold it a while ago but kept mags, stocks just in case.

Get a muzzle loader. Fun and cheap to shoot and you can go all day and never get bored. Try some mountain man games with them too.

Got confused when you called it an import. I assumed that there were foreign made M1 carbines, but there don't seem to be any. Learned something today.

An SKS is a fun, cheap shooter as close to unbreakable as you can get.

I've owned about a dozen of them. Have a few 10/22 s. Not looking for either of those 2. Was really trying to keep it between the two choices. I'm realizing that I really should just buy both. I have everything for a mini already, new style should stay in production about 20 more years. The carbine can be shot indoors, always draws a crowd. I'm taking a look at the IBM tomorrow and will most likely buy it. The mini will come later in the year I suppose.

Threaded barrel, if you go with the mini.

I vote M1 carbine, they're more interesting than a mini14.

M1 carbines are also great chick guns.
