I have two newer Mini's (580/581) both will shoot 1 to 2" groups if I do my job ...my older 186 was a 4" or better ( no mods done) from my examples Ruger has improved them greatly .WTS from what I hear on another forum (Ruger.Net) that Ruger is having some serious QC issues and the 582 is plagued with problems so I would avoid a brand new one and look for one just a few years old.

Thanks for the advice all. I try to buy the rifles at the best era if I can. The accuracy gain over the older seems to be a great plus of the newer rifles.

Had some people PM wanting to see the Mini14 apparently there was a problem with the image hosting of the pictures and the pictures got deleted. Re submitted them and they should be back up.

But in a new note I have information for an M1A style walnut stock to replace the birch stock. And it will be able to fit an M1A butt plate on it as well. It is a custom stock from
www.grotriangunstocks.com and will cost about 200 dollars. Also if anyone plans on parkerizing the mini14 at least for the ranch rifle please note that the bolt and magazine well for the stock are indeed stainless steel and have to be cerakoted or duracoated to match the parkerizing. I have gone with Cerakote in graphite black.

Parkerizing of the rifle and magazine are finished. Looks 100% better now. I had a worker at the local gun shop that is classic military rifle fan and m14 rifle fan swear up and down it was an m1a. He had to look twice. Very funny. I was tempted to tell him it was the new Springfield M1a5.56 that just came out.

Anyway New pictures are coming in a few hours. Hope you guys enjoy. The walnut stock and m1a buttplate will be here in a few weeks.

Admittedly, I am envying your your mini 14. My 187 series ( Ranch) went into black rifle mode, with an ATI . Strikeforce. Not that the tigerstripe hardwood , was beat up..... I just wanted to keep it that way.
Trigger job & Accu-Strut (LT) made it shoot great . All twenty Rds. can be kept inside 3in. At 75 yds.

I have some remorse... 3 yrs. later , , now, changing it ; ★loving yours , Killashrub.

Awards Showcase

I can't wait to see that stock with the M14 Metal butt plate. That will be a selling point for me.

Damn wish I never would have seen this thread because I'm finishing up my
M1A and now you guys have put ideas in my head about my 14. Funny thing is I just shot it 2 weeks ago for the first time in 12 years.

Quit doing the Vulcan mind thing on me or I'll have to wear my tin foil hat when I'm on this forum!

Forgot to say welcome from Michigan.

Thanks from Killashrub

New update. I tried to get a mini 14 stock made custom for the m14 butt plate. But the guy said he probably wouldn't be able to do it and I got to thinking and decided the stock would be fatter and look a little off. BUT I found an M16 trap door butt plate that looks just like m1 garand plate just smaller that should work perfectly. Also the multi tone parkerizing got to me a bit and almost decided to pre-dip blacken the rifle before parkerizing but decided instead of buying Zink parkerizing and pre-dip blackener For the same price my bro that's helping me with all this and refinishing an FAL along side my mini 14 he got cerakote of the same color as pre-dip blackened parkerizing.

So its been cerekoted one nice dark parkerized color.
Getting an M16 Butt plate to fit to stock instead of new stock to fit a butt plate. 10$ vs 250$
Plate is on the way 10$ shipped.

Also an M14 Handguard from fulton armory has been modified to fit my mini 14 and is finished just need the butt plate.

The nylon cheek rest / magazine pouch was awesome and decent quality but nylon tugged and pulled on facial hair. It has been given away.

Range master at the shooting range walks by my bench and sees 2 M14's a garand and springfield 03. He looks at them and asks "Are those fine rifles yours?" I say yes. He says "I really like the stock on the M1a Socom. I didn't know the socom looked like that or else he would of got one." I laugh and tell him that its a mini 14. He didn't believe me until I showed him the 5.56 ammo in the magazine and the hard to see RANCH RIFLE on the receiver. He laughs and says "Now that is how a mini 14 should look." I got a lot of looks that day from many people. One older man stared at them both really really hard then finally realized it was a mini 14 and laughed and walked away. One other guy thought I was crazy for spending all this money on a mini 14 and that I should of bought a 1000$ AR15. He also tried to say that the M1a and Mini 14 were obsolete. After not being able to give a good enough reason as to why they were obsolete. He stated the M14 wasn't a 1000 yard rifle so I tagged the gong at 1000yards with 175g ammo and then he went on saying how the AR15 is just more accurate. My 1 moa groups with the mini 14 ruined his idea on that. I then went on to say how the AR15 is something a toddler should teeth on and how I prefer wood and steel. I was kinda angry at that dude. You can bash the Mini 14 all you want but don't talk down the M1A. My Garand and Springfield 03 took no flack.

ol' mom and pop gun shop MC Gunsmithing here in florida offered me 1000$ for my Mini 14. Had another guy offer 1000$ at work. And my lieutenant offered me 1200$ which is all together how much money I put into the entire rifle including labor 10$ an hour. Was very tempting because im looking into getting a standard M1a or M1a Loaded. Hey Ruger, build these rifles like this out of the box and make 300-400 dollars more per rifle. How is this hard to figure out.

Looking for a decent M1 Carbine if anyone has one they want to let go. Can be GI issue or Auto ordnance or other remakes. As long as it looks decent and is reliable.

Thought someone would like to see the rifle before the butt plate comes in.

Changes from previous pictures on page 1 are :
-M14 hand-guard from Fulton armory (plastic not fiberglass was much easier to work with)
-Cerekote

I cant tell its a mini from this angle

Oh and the upper hand guard clip people keep asking about is just some thin sheet steel that was cut using sheers, bent into place, and cerekoted the secret is out.
