Anyone make a quality modernized M1D scope mount?
Does anyone make a quality modernized version of the M1D scope mount for the Garand, suitable for use with current 30mm or 1" scopes? Or plan to?
Most of the discussion I see about the M1D mount is guys trying to clone the historical configuration of the M1D sniper rifle, which I don't care about at all. Rather, I just want to be able to mount a modern conventional (rather than Scout IER) scope on my Garand in a low left-offset position, similar to the M1D configuration. And from what I hear, the basic design of how the M1D scope mount attaches to its barrel block is still the best way to go for that. (Please do correct me if I'm mistaken.)
PhilOhio built himself a scope mount
that attaches to a USGI M1D barrel block. His mount places the scope higher than I'd like, but otherwise looks very promising. I suspect one problem may be that different scopes will need different mounting positions. Although it of course won't fit the Garand, the new RS AK-300
scope mount (currently in stock at Brownells
) might serve as inspiration. It is designed to let you tweak the scope position both forward/back and left/right. To change vertical position though you'd need different height rings.
