Another vet rifle followed me home

So I went to the LGS today and came home with a Springfield 1903A3 made by Remington Arms. It will go into the WWII collection in my safe. I have not researched the serial number yet or anything else. I am a bit suspicious of the wood stock as it seem to modern and show minimal wear. It has a SA cartouche stamped in it but no inspector marks I could see. No import marks so it is not one of the CAI M1903A3s hitting the market recently. Could be a CMP gun but not sure how I would find out. Anyway, giving another vet a good home. Now I have M1A, M1 Garand, M1 Carbine and M1903A3 for the US side of my WII collection

I have my USA collection pretty much covered all the way back to the 1873 Trapdoor, both carbine and rifle. Right up to the M-16A1/M4 (semiauto), including handguns from the 1873 Colt through the 1911, 1911A-1, Beretta 92, Colt and S&W WW-1 era .45acp revolvers and the Victory model .38 of WW2. I have a nice 03, 03A-3, and an 1897 Winchester Trench Gun. I also have both the 1892 Krag rifle and two of the carbines. It has taken me fifty years to get this far and I'm not nearly satisfied yet with what I've accomplished.

The NRA also sold a lot of 03A3's along with carbines and .45's back in the 50's and 60's. Most were in minty condition, whether rebuilds or original. Hope you got one of these. I don't think I ever had one of the 03A3's in either 2-groove or 4 that wasn't an excellent shooter. Good luck with it!

The green eyed monster is out now, I want one of those next for my collection as well. I have my eye on one down at the infamous gun smoke (of TV fame) shop for 600 bucks. I'm hopping it is still there come Friday aka payday. Have fun with yours and let us all know how she shoots.

Did more looking at it today. Serial number in the 3749XXX range but the barrel is marked

RA
bombburst stamp
6-44

My search of the Remington serial numbers show this weapon to be of 1942 vintage. I guess she was arsenal rebarrelled at one time. Have not take the furniture off to check marks underneath. Came with what looks like original issue canvas sling also. There are no inspector initials I can see without taking wood off. Some parts have an emblem that looks like an X stamped in them.

Just adding info as I find it.

If I am not mistaken, parts marked with an X are made by smith corona.

My Rem 03 #32590xx, barrel 10/42 was made 11/42. Yours may have been made later than 6/44 as marked on the barrel. All Rem parts execpt the stock, SA. Sounds like you did well.
