Just got a remington m1903 rifle

hello, just got a m1903 rifle the other day. She is very nice, but no cartouche marks on the stock. I think they were sanded off. But the everything is remington except the bolt. From what I can gather it is a smith and corona bolt. The barrel is marked R A (flaming bomb) 6 42. The barrel is dusty and needs a cleaning. I have been looking at the rifle since the day they put it on the shelf a few months ago.

Very nice. And it's a high-number receiver with a later bolt from the WWII rebuild, so it's safe to shoot.

Actually it's a WWII-production rifle, and there was never any issue about whether those rifles were safe to shoot.

I am going to try to take it to the range next monday, waiting for some 168gr bullets to show up and load up some ammo to try.

One suggestion on shooting any 03 rifle, use a GOOD shoulder pad as they do kick.

I use this one as it can be strapped on over any clothing or even during a HOT summer day with only a T shirt under it.

I don't know, since it can be worn over or under other clothing. I would suggest you contact the CMP and ask them.

All Remington 03 are all 4 groove barrels and there replacement 03 barrels are the same 4 grooves, Remingtons 03A3 rifle production started with a 4 groove and later switched too a two groove barrel when this change over happened in production I don't know. I have seen many 2 groove replacement 03a3 barrels but never a 4 groove replacement.

Yes you cant shoot with a shoulder pad, as long as its attached too YOU and not your rifle.

P.s. NICE RIFLE!! give a range report when you can.

Thanks from ppcshooter1

Thanks, I thought there were Smith Corona and Remington 03 2 groovers made.
I have a 2 groove A3, and it doesn't like heavy bullets (168/173), but shoots HXP and cast bullets very well.
