bore guides?

I always subscribed to the thought that more barrels were worn out due to over-cleaning than to actually being shot-out. So my preferred method of cleaning has been to use a boresnake with clp on a normal basis and occasionally a good rod with a brush and a couple patches to get the really stuck on stuff. I recently bought a bottle of sweet's 7.62 solvent and have had a lot of copper and carbon residue come out of a couple rifles that had previously been cleaned using clp. So, I may have to change my cleaning regime a bit. I've never bothered using a bore guide before but if I start to use a rod more I definitely need to.

So, What bore guides are recommended for an m1, 1903-A3, remington 700, ar15, and win mod 94? I know I'll need more than one type in order to cover all these rifles. I was getting overwhelmed looking at the hundreds of different ones on midway. So, I figured I would get some honest answers, as to what works or not, here.

Thanks,
Sven

sven, i can chime in on the AR15,

I use the bolt carrier (after i clean it) as a makeshift boreguide. my dewey rod doesent mind and it seems to work fine.

For an M1A, use a fired, decapped 12ga shotgun shell to clean from the bore.

700 action i use a boreguide that locks into the reciever. cant remember the brand name.

Thanks from tonyben

As much as I wanted the 12g shell to work for me, It didn't with my .27cal dewey rod.

I just clean from chamber to barrel not barrel to chamber and my ARs are fine, no bore guide used
