Strange mark Remington 1903a3

I have 1903a3 that I just recently bought from a friend. When I got it the bolt had a black substance on it like paint. I had a gunsmith clean the bolt and reblue it and when he did we found a number on the cut spot above the bolt handle 3211. It doesn't match the serial number and we cant figure out what it was for or from. By the way we are pretty sure this is greek return to CMP

Its the serial of the rifle it was originally on. Very common on Greek returns

That sounds about right. We are lucky to get these lend lease rifles back for public sale.
