People always say how rough WRA parts are. Look at some early Springfield parts, they are just as rough. There was a War going on, didnt have time to make rifles pretty, just functional

looks like Hammonje was right, email was the way to go get some kind of timely response. And it was a good thing too, they clarified some points about the ordering. Just so folks know, a US driver's license will NOT work as proof of citizenship. Had to dig around for the old passport.

Do CMP Garands come with any sorts of accessories, particularly the M1 Garand maintenance combination tool, or am I going to have to track one of these down and buy one, in addition to other accessories?

Comes with owners manual and one enbloc.
IMO the only thing the combo tool is good for is cleaning the chamber

Does one typically have to take down the bolt for cosmoline removal when one receives a Garand from the CMP? I may try to look into tracking down a combo tool if this is the case.

I have ordered 20 en bloc clips, so perhaps I should, at the very least, start looking for a sling.

You should completely tear down the rifle to the smallest part, clean and lube with grease where needed
Many of the CMP garands will come completely clean but not properly lubed. Others will be greasy and need cleaned
Some guys will just soak the bolts and trigger assemblies in cleaner and not dissasemble which is fine but you really should tear it down to learn how to do it. Also gives you a better idea of the workings of the Garand

+100. And, as much as I enjoy M14 rifles, for the money, get an M1 Garand SG while you can.

What he said...

Everyone I have ever purchased has had some ammount of cosmo..

With the instruction manual and you tube, you can take down a Garand without any issue. You really can't screw it up...

I'm down in Florida with my job at the moment, going home in a couple of days. I noticed that my route back takes me near Anniston so I'm going to make a stop on Friday at the South Store! Didn't think I'd ever have an opportunity to go to either one.

Has anyone been to the South Store in the last week or two? I'd be interested to hear what's there. I'd like to find a Service grade H&R, not sure if that'll actually happen or not but I'm sure going to try!

If you DON'T find what you want at the SS and you'll be coming through Central TX on the way home, lemme know.
