Thanks for posting. You just bumped the 03 to top of the list. I must have one.

I went from none to 3 (Smith Carona 03A3, Gibbs 03A4, and this 03) and they are rapidly becoming my favorites. The Smith Carona is maybe the most accurate rifle that I own....no joke.

Thanks from Boom Stick

Thumbs up Great score!!!!

Good For You, SWEET!!!!

BRAVO ZULU on your historic score... EXCELLENT!!!!...
If only that rifle could tell "it's" story to all of us.

I often imagine such things based upon a circa early 20's 03 I have who was owned by this individual...

His Father Rode with Sherman during the WNA = War of Northern Aggression....

Nice rifle.
Before shooting it though, if you haven't heard about "low numbered Springfields" and the receiver heat treat issue, you might do a search on it and read up on it.
I've seen it vigorously debated on other forums.

I know all about the low number 03's.. After doing a lot of reading, I am actually not that concerned about shooting it.....however, I am not going to. I took it to the range, put 1 round through it and it is now going to be a safe queen. I have a great Smith Carona and even a Gibbs to shoot when I want some bolt action fun..

I too have a Smith Corona 03A3 that seems to shoot one round after another in the same hole no matter i much i try not to. It too is the most accurate rifle i own. I have a high number Springfield 03 and no matter how hard i try wont group. go figure. Great rifles have fun with them.

Looking at it reminds me of the one used by MM1/c Jake Holman in “The Sand Pebbles”

Very Nice rifle. Oldest one I have seen. I have a Rock Island Arsenal from 1917 that I am having restored. Some nitwit took a drill to the muzzle end of the barrel and hogged out the rifling about an inch into the barrel on mine. In the process of having it rebarrelled and re-stocked.

Looking forward to shooting the old gal. I have 2 1903's headed my way in the morning from CMP. I'll post pics after they arrive.
