| Very Disappointed!!!
Hello All,
I have always wanted an M14/M1A for long time, and finally had the opportunity to get one this year. I found an SAI M1A Standard at a local gun shop for a price I could not refuse, and finally I had one in my possesion. Needless to say I was pretty excited about the acquisition. I figured with the money I saved on the purchase I could make some upgrades, and with a little research and help from the Firing Line, and it's many knowledegable members I had a game plan for my rifle.
I set out to make some component additions and upgrades part of which included a trigger group upgrade, this is the foundation of my disappointment and frustration. I chose to send my trigger group to Smith Enterprises for the trigger upgrade. I thought this would be a reputable place to have the work done. The trigger group was sent pronto after some communication regarding the upgrade and potentially an approximate delivery date.
The initial conversation suggested around the two week mark, give or take for the upgrade completion. I was in no hurry mind you so this sounded reasonable and I was aware of Mr. Smith's other committments. The trigger group was sent in Janurary of this year. I have had some conversation on the phone and through e-mail since that time on the progress of my trigger group. I have been patient, cordial and understanding until this point. Mind you I am not one to usually express my problems in this manner, but thought the members should be aware before they set out on a project.
So I have this new rifle that has never had a round fired through it, winter is shortly arriving here in Michigan and no trigger. I have tried to make further communication this month to no avail. Now I just want my trigger group back even if untouched.

That seems beyond patient,
I'm in an issue with Smith right now and just waiting to see how it plays out
not sure I can see my way to ever do business with them again

not sure I can see my way to ever do business with them again | I had plans to purchase other products as well, and this also was discussed as part of the trigger upgrade. I am quite forgiving when warranted and still may purchase other items from them, but cannot condone poor customer relations.(We all know how that has played out for the auto industry in my home state)

Oh, man, having previously lived in Michigan, I can feel your pain! Hopefully they will at least return your trigger to you soon.
I am not sure what all SEI does when they work over a trigger but in future, if all you want is a really nice trigger pull, I suggest you try Bill Springfield in Colorado Springs. He has done at least a half dozen triggers for me over the last two years ranging from AR's, M1's, and one M1A; they have all been outstanding. I even replaced a RRA NM 2 stage trigger in one AR with a standard trigger worked over by him because I found I could double tap faster with it. Here is the painful part.....the longest I have ever been out of a trigger group, when sent out to him for work, was 7 days. Yes, that's right; within 7 days of shipping out, they have ALL returned to my doorstep! His customer service is exemplary! Here is a link: http://www.triggerwork.net/index.html
or maybe it should look like this: http://www.triggerwork.net/index.html
I am new to posting here, hopefully one of these links is live.

Be careful with SEI trigger "upgrades".. I have repaired several SEI upgraded trigger assemblies that the owners had double, triple etc. There are many ways to reduce the pull weight on the trigger of an M1 or M1A, but only one right way..

I'm definitely going to try your guy. I have a couple M1 Carbines that could use some work. And some Garands... and.... |

If I get a trigger group back I will look into your suggestions. I have a feeling I will be on the hook to get a whole new assembly. (Which really pisses me off) I hope he is not treating our troops in this fashion!

In my background in self employed private business and twenty years in the automotive industry, one thing is infinitely clear, TAKE CARE OF THE CUSTOMER.
