Steel Remington 870 Trigger Guard??

I've seen comments about a "STEEL" trigger guard on 870s,and was curious if there ever was a such thing.I've had 870s with black painted aluminum guards, and have a couple now,but have never seen a steel one.Can a "STEEL" guard be had in factory or after market,or is it a aluminum one thats been mistaken for steel?

The references you've heard are probably mistaking the aluminum for steel. Maybe way back on the first 870s, remington might have used a steel trigger assembly but I'll wager it is a mistake. Aluminum is all I've seen, but my 870s are all newer ones. Even my Express from early 80s came with the aluminum one.

I have a late 1950's 870 and it has the aluminum TG. I think it's about a 1957 model. I recently acquired an 870 Express and a 11-87 Police semiauto and they both have polymer TG's. I was a bit put off at first but being a Glock shooter I came around fast. The polymer is both sturdy and functional and won't chip or wear through the finish like an aluminum TG. Now I just need to get that Express as smooth as my other 870's................

The 870 triggerguard has always been aluminum until recently.

Allen Timney made after-market steel trigger groups for Rem. 1100's & 870's. They came in both "pull" and "release" versions for trap and skeet shooters. They sold for around $250-$300. They can be found for sale on sites like trapshooters.com now. Only problem is most don't have safeties as they are designed mostly for target guns. A version with a safety was sold through Brownell's years ago and was fully adjustable. It was popular with slug shooters.

An example of a steel unit for an 1100:

That's a nice trigger guard, but I woulld certainly feel better with a safety REGUARDLESS!Pun intended. With a safety it'd shore nuff be nice ,but I wouldn't want to sink that kind of $$$ in to it.
