I picked up a great condition police shotgun I had never seen before.
I thought it was a Rem 870, but it is a S&W 3000. has nice walnut stocks, parkerized finish. Anybody have one of these?

Been a long time. I was on patrol/SWAT with San Diego PD in the 90s. Most of our patrol shotguns were 870s. Found the 3000 one day, tried it out and kept it for my duty weapon for quite a while. In short, it fed and cycled very smoothly. Looking forward to hearing your thoughts on how she works out for you.

I have a folding stock model with extended tube, works good, I think they were made by Howa Japan for Smith &Wesson, and are a copy of an 870. In my experience they do not bring 870 money in sales, and when worn out, have problems with sears, but otherwise good shotguns..

I believe these are becoming sought but the riot/Mil shotgunners. I would like to pick up one as a specimen but they are still abundant. Just one of many more seldom seen riot/cruiser variants like High standard, Mossberg ATP, etc. Anythhing with wood stocks and swivels is eye catching to me.

When I was 18 years old I bought S&W 916A ,9 shot pump gun that had the rear sight missing for 100 bucks.
That thing was one slick shuckin shotgun .
I sold it to help get money together for the down payment on my new 1983 Harley.
I wish I'd kept that gun I didn't know how few of them there are.
It was marked Property of Norfolk Va Police Department.
All I need to do was buy a standard 3/8th dovetail rear sight and it would have been complete.
I've only seen a hand full of S&W 916A's since then another rare one I let slip through my hands .
Its bad to be stupid ,I've learned my lesson after letting a few rare guns get away from me .
Now if its something I'm not sure about I do my homework before I buy or sell a gun

wow

Guess I am unusual as I have my 3000 with extended magazine and the Sile collapsible stock I put on it, and I inherited my Dad's 916 that was bought for him as a Christmas present by the guys on his shift and me. My 3000 shoots super well with 00 and slugs, even let a friend take it to the Academy to qualify with and he came back raving about the gun. One of the instructors wanted to buy it. Somehow I cannot bring myself to shoot Dad's shotgun and it remains as he left it, mag loaded ready to go in it's case.

The 3000 is on home defense duty now that we both retired!
