Shotgun History

Anyone know where you can get the history of an old Winchester 1897? It belonged to my Grandfather and I got it when my father passed.

Another tidbit is these guns were purchased very commonly through the Sears catalog, which was the pre-pre-pre-Everything Walmart. We had an antique Sears catalog and I was amazed just how many guns it had. But really that was the way people bought and shipped stuff. Catalog -> post office. Didn't matter how remote you were, it would get there eventually.

Ok well does the stock have checkering on it or is it smooth. Also if it is checkered does it have a black diamond on the side of the stock near the hand grip?

If you're looking for an actual history of YOUR particular gun, no, there's not a compendium of where a particular serial number has traveled. If you write winchester you MAY get a letter indicating when and where it was first delivered, but since then there's no way of knowing.

Cool boomstick, though. Enjoy it.

Stock is smooth, no diamond. I found this site.

Found out the gun was born in 1899.
