I picked up an almost new condition Winchester 1300 pump action 20 gauge for dirt the other day. I plan on adding an extended mag tube and a light eventually and having it ready as something my wife can handle for HD. Anyways, it had no sling studs so I used a couple I had laying around. I drilled a hole dead center in the mag tube cap and mounted a sling stud there, and another in the usual rear stock location. Works great but now im concerned maybe drilling the mag cap might have been a bad idea? I see pictures of other shotguns with studs there, are they welded or threaded? I also read that some shotguns need to vent there. Is my install ok? Seems its just a tube with a spring to me so I didnt think twice. Thanks!

Reason: Added pics
I've several Remington M11s that the front sling is done that way. They are screwed in. One has been like that for about 30 years. I prefer putting two nuts on them which really locks them into place. But no reason can't use something like loctite.

Thanks! Good to know. Im new to shotguns. I just used a lock washer and loctite when I installed mine. Should be good then. Thanks again!
This should give you no problems whatsoever as it's the same thing I did with my Rem. 870s before I added the extended mag tubes...had no problems at all.
When you add the extended mag tube, you won't be able to use the end cap swivel. Instead, be sure to get a tube support clamp (adds support/strength to the tube) and use a long shanked swivel screw (IIRC, Uncle Mike's bolt-action machine screw set is what I used) instead of the regular screw used to hold the two pieces together. Just be aware that this gives you a sidewards swivel location; just place right or left to your preference.
