I have taken the trigger assembly out, cleaned it really well and looked it over for excessively worn or broken parts, which I have found none. Comparing it to the trigger assembly out of my grandfathers 1960s model Wingmaster I can't see anything wrong that would keep it from operating versus the one from my grandfathers older shotgun that still works.
Back when I was single and still had time and money I put a bunch of rounds through this shotgun. Since I can't see anything physically wrong, my only guess is that I have used the gun enough to wear out at least the slide release spring. Does that sound right or does anyone else have any ideas? |
TMC, if it's not the spring, there is a tricky part to reinstalling the trigger assy back in the receiver. Look at the top of the slide release lever where it goes into the receiver. That top interacts with a lever and spring that is located just under the ejection port in the RH side of the receiver. Make sure that part is clean and operates freely. When properly assembled, the slide release bar top should be just under that lever in the receiver. I've seen this noted in some assy manuals, and it is critical to having the slide lock up after cycling the action. Hope this helps. dozier
