| First .22LR Rifle
What was your first and how did you come by it and what did you use if for? Do you still have it?
Mine was a Stevens Buckhorn Mdl 66-B bolt action with a tubular magazine. I'm a twin and when we were about 10-11 my Dad answered an ad and took us out and bought us each a used .22 rifle. My bro got a Winchester 67 BA with a 7 shot magazine. I got first pick and chose the Stevens. Sigh. If I only knew then what I know now! My old Stevens is shot out now, very little rifling left from many thousands of rounds fired. I used it for squirrel and rabbit hunting and lots of plinking. It still sits in a gun rack in my library.

Winchester mod. 290. My Grandfather bought it for me when I was born, or shortly thereafter with all things, S&H Greenstamps. I still have it to this day and she still shoots very well. I can't imgaine how many rounds I've put thru it in my 44 years.

Winchester Model 62 (or was it a 62A). Could be broken down into two pieces with a takedown screw and had a tubular magazine. Great handling pump action. Took a lot of jack rabbits with it out in the Mojave desert while in high school. Think my old man got rid of it when I went into the service in '68. Believe Rossi makes a model very similar to it nowadays.

Family heirloom Colt Lightning .22 LR pump rifle, tubular magazine, octagonal barrel. My uncle had to make a firing pin for it. It's in the back of the safe somewhere, 50 years after it was handed to me.

My Dad got it for me for my 14th birthday. I gave it to my younger brother when I went into the service, he has passed it thru his first grandson. Needs refurbishment, so I will get it back. Already bought parts through Numrich. the metal parts will get refinished, as will the stock.

It was 1975 or 76 when my dad took me and my older brother to get us each a 22 rifle. My brother got a Remington 552 Speedmaster. Me, I was into Cowboys at the time so I got a Winchester 9422 XTR.
We both went into the service in the 80's and the rifles were left at our mothers house. Our younger brother let someone use our older brother's Remington and it was never seen again.
My younger brother was too scared to mess with my Winchester. I thik I told him that I would kill him if he touched it.
My son enjoys shooting my Winchester and one day I will give it to him.
This year I gave my older brother's oldest son a Remington 552 Speedmaster for his 17th birthday.

Western Auto Model 100 single shot. This is more of a full-size rifle, and is pin-point accurate. My youngest son and I used to shot a 25 yard NRA pistol target at 25 yards. However, we were shooting the NRA symbol on the bottom. First one outside of the symbol lost. Iron sights of the 1950's, too. |

| Cool!
I can see there were lots of great Dads getting their sons (and daughters) involved in and American tradition and in some cases passing down a precious piece of family history. Great memories, guys!
