New S&W 15-22 owner

Just picked it up today before work. I put a few mags through it in my 'basement shooting range' and it functioned 100% but appeared to be shooting about 4" low at 7 yds. Anyone else had a similar experience with low rounds? Not enough time to do any checking today but I'll have a look at it in a few days. 1 graveyard down, 6 to go.......... Also added to my 'take pictures' list.

Disappointment

Well, I finally got the time to shoot my M&P 15-22 and yes it shoots very low. Now for another problem. When I tried to adjust the rear sight it just spun, clicking appropriately but the rear sight did not move. After adjusting it several clicks, which probably equated to a few full rotations of the wheel the sight jumped up about 1/4". Grrrrr. So I tried to call S&W and their automated system just dumps into a black hole which states that the message extension is not routed to 0 and then loops endlessly no matter what number is called. Grrrrrrrrrrr. So I perused their website and found that Smith doesn't do any warranty repair themselves, but farms it out to some smaller gun shops. GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR. In speaking with their authorized warranty repair rep this is a common problem with these rifles..............GGGGGRRRRRRRRRRR.

So now my brand new nonfunctioning rilfe gets sent off for warranty repair without ever being deployed. I'm sure that in a 1000 years this won't matter, but right now it's very disappointing.

Merc, sorry to read about your problems. I friend called me the other night and said he had just bought one for his wife. he had so much fun shooting it he bought one for himself. I don't think he had any problems with the sight.

The extractor was a problem on these when they first came out.

I got my 15-22 back today and the sight was repaired. It still shoots very low. The repair ticket says that it was 'upgraded to lastest specs". I will have to get it out to the range and see how it does. It was always reliable, just an B.O. rear sight.

To follow up on this. I took the rifle along with my stepson to the range and we ran about 300 rounds through it with no problems. It sighted in fine. We did get yelled at by the RSO for not placing our targets appropriately, but that didn't detract from the fun.

BTW here's a comparison of the Colt and the S&W .22LR AR15 style rifles. It also shows the compatability of the rifles with the AR. This review was done in late 2009 and S&W now offers a FH and different sights.

Thats hard luck on that funky sight.
I have had a great time shooting mine.Took my great nephew out for his 1st shoot and we shot the M&P 15-22 That collapsible stock made it a great fit for the 12 year old.
He had a ball with it.

Yeah, my stepson really like this gun. It is the first one that he grabs when we head out to the range. I'm going to try it out on my grand daughter next time that I can steal her away to go shooting. She's 7 and I think this will fit her just fine. I did get her a Chipmonk in .22LR for last Christmas. It's pink ;-) It fits nicely in her pink camo rifle case.

I know this is old so we will see what it pops up. But i just found a m&p 15-22 in a local pawn shop barrel looked to be in good shape. It wasn't beat up and had a set of Magpul sights on it with a cheap-o red-dot. Wondering if I shouldn't jump on the deal for under 400?
Thanks for any advice was sort of looking to get a 22 pistol to lessen the cost of practice, but a AR 22 could be fun

What variation is it? The earlier ones didn't have a flash hider, but that shouldn't make any difference in how it shoots. I think that I paid under $400 for mine new.

I bought three of them when they first came out for myself and my two grown sons for Christmas presents. We haven't had any issues whatsoever, with any of ours in several thousand rounds of Federal bulk pack...

I think it is just the standard model with a few extras so I will see what I can do to talk him down a little and might have myself a new gopher killing machine

I just ordered the M&P 15 22 with the 18" barrel from the S&W Performance Center. It has the threaded barrel.

I have heard a lot of good things about this rifle and I can't wait to try it out.
